Personal Update

It has been quite some time since I've updated this blog. I have just recently come back to this site and realized I do have a few people still following me. When I first made this blog the idea was for me to write in it at least a few times a week to get me in the habit of writing more often. Obviously, I haven't been very diligent in that respect. Normally my blogs have been about news and politics, but I don't have anything on my mind in that arena right now. Instead, I suppose I'll just update my life since the last time I wrote here.

In January, I became an uncle to a beautiful little girl named Aleena. I have enjoyed getting to visit her whenever I'm in Sacramento and see her grow up and discover the world around her. It's great to get some experience and practice without the full-on commitment of fatherhood.

I previously was working at Macy's from November of last year until May, when I finally got a job at a radio station. I began work at KDIA 1640 and KDYA 1190, based in Richmond. I am an Internet Research Assistant, but I also do a lot of writing. I write the monthly newsletters for both stations, and I have written some commercials as well. I also have started up profiles for both stations on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and some other less well known user profiles. In addition, I am involved in various research projects on the Internet. There is a lot of creative freedom in my job and I am having a great time coming up with ideas on how to promote and market the station both online and in the real world. It is a great experience for me and I am thrilled to finally have a job that involves so many things that I enjoy doing, namely writing and the radio.

Additionally, I got a job in June with KGO and KSFO of San Francisco, working for their Ground Crew. It is a less involved job--only on weekends--but it is a great experience, and a chance to gain more contacts in the radio industry. I attend events with the station, talk to listeners, and help promote any events or contests going on.

I'm still in the Coast Guard reserves as well. I'll be hitting my five year mark in September. Next year I'll have to decide whether to re-enlist or not. At this point I'm much more on the side of re-enlisting, but I'll know for sure soon.

Other than working, I have been enjoying my life as best I can and of course loving my wife. She helps keep things in perspective for me and reminds me every day of the good and happiness I have in my life. We signed up for me to be on Wipe Out, which is a show where you have to overcome a lot of difficult obstacles. I don't know if I'll be picked for it, but the winner receives $50,000 so I've been working out every day to improve my strength and endurance. If nothing else, I'm getting in better shape so even if I don't get picked I'll have my health.

Anyway, as I said, this is kind of a different direction than my usual category of choice, but I wanted to write something and I don't have anything else on my mind. I'm interested in what other people like to talk about as well, so if you are reading this and have any ideas for me, let me know and I'll give my thoughts.
